| Abstract | The inspiration for TangerineSDR came from the HamSCI [8] group as a request for SDR hardware that could be used as a Personal Space Weather Station (PSWS). Their need resulted in the four-hour Sunday seminar at the TAPR Digital Communications Conference in Albuquerque, NM, on September 16, 2018. At TAPR, our first response was, “Let’s find a commercial SDR that we can incorporate into a PSWS kit”. Existing hardware would be our best bet for a quick solution. After some research and further consultation with the scientists at HamSCI, it became clear that there was no affordable (less than US $500) solution that met PSWS requirements. This article explains the TangerineSDR project and requirements. Reprinted with permission; copyright ARRL. |
